My name is Derrick Peterman and when I moved to California’s Silicon Valley in 2000, I never thought I’d end up writing about beer. It wasn’t until maybe 2006 that I started straying from MGD and Rolling Rock to sample the brews from various local California breweries that were just starting to make decent in roads into grocery and liquor stores. Then I took a trip to Mendocino County with my wife to be, visiting a couple breweries there and had my epiphany that beer can be a complex beverage with all sorts of different, arresting flavors. Delving deeper, I discovered beer has rich connections to history, geography, science and economics. I started writing this blog in April 2009 and mostly write about San Francisco Bay Area breweries and beers distributed in the area. I also sometimes write about how beer is made and the last couple years have focused a bit on California malt and hops. Sometimes I’ll comment on a more national brewing trends or change in the beer business climate.
